Guilty Verdict Reached in Piatt County Murder Case

A man from Granity City, Illinois is found guilty of murdering a Piatt County man.

According to court records, 21-year-old Blayton Cota will be sentenced on August 29th at 1:30pm.

65-year-old Michael Brown of Hammond was found dead in his home on South C Street January 26th, 2021, said officials.

In February, 19-year-old Jerome Schmidt was sentenced to 50 years in prison for murdering Brown.

Officals said a juvenile was also charged in the case.

Brown was murdered during a burglary, said officials.
