Charleston Gas Leak

Friday, 1 November 2013

Friday afternoon the Charleston Fire Department responded to a gas leak at the intersection of 9th and Garfield Streets.

The intersection was closed to traffic and pedetrians for more than an hour while Ameren and the Charleston Fire Department located the leak.

Assistant Chief Steve Bennett says workers on 9th street nicked a gas main and caused a gas leak.

Ameren Gas Supervisor Kyle Hoke says the damage should take about an hour to repair.

Hoke expects the intersection to be re-opened around 4pm Friday afternoon.
