EIU's Phi Beta Sigma Update

Wednesday, 30 October 2013

A fraternity at a local university is appealing a suspension handed down after a large weekend party.

Eastern Illinois University's Phi Beta Sigma says they were wrongfully punished for hosting the Barn Party in Charleston on September 14th.

In the appeal, the fraternity requests the five-year suspension, 300 hour community service requirement, and the $2,000 fine be lifted.

They also say the demand that the fraternity move out of their Greek Court house on EIU's campus immediately is unjust.

EIU's Vice President for Student Affairs Dan Nadler says this disciplinary matter is still pending, and the university cannot comment at this time.

Charleston police say two people were shot and another beaten at the Barn Party, which authorities say was hosted by Phi Beta Sigma.

The fraternity denies hosting the event.
