The Mattoon fire department is working with the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System, or MABAS to provide emergency shelters for areas in need. MABAS demonstrated Wednesday night just how well these tents provide a sanctuary for emergency response teams as well as refugees. The tents are used by more than 30 MABAS rescue teams in the state of Illinois. Assistant Fire Chief Sean Junge says MABAS is a part of the Illinois Terrorism Task Force and receives state funding for the shelters.
