State's Attorney: No Charges Against Pastor

Thursday, 3 October 2013

A state's attorney says it's too late to prosecute a former pastor on allegations of sexual abuse from more than 30 years ago.

Robert "Bud" DeGrand, pastor of parishes in Sigel and Neoga, withdrew from public ministry last month pending further investigation.

The incident is said to have happened in 19-80 when he was assigned to Our Savior Parish in Jacksonville, Illinois.

Morgan County State's Attorney Robert Bonjean says the initial allegations are past the statute of limitations to prosecute DeGrand, but the Diocese is conducting an internal investigation of its own.

He says the Jacksonville Police Department is ready to assist the Diocese if any further information comes to light.
