The Effingham County State's attorney says he's seeking life in prison for 22-year-old Justin DeRyke when his trial starts later this year.
DeRyke is charged with first degree murder for the death of his niece 7-year-old Willow Long.
His jury trial starts December 2nd.
Authorities say DyRyke told investigators he killed his niece to end her suffering after she accidentally fell onto a brush pile and pierced her neck with a stick.
DeRyke is represented by public defender Scott Schmidt and returns to court October 22nd.
