Former EIU Players Sign with Pro Clubs

Two former Eastern Illinois University baseball pitchers have signed with professional clubs in the offseason.

Mike Recchia joins the Baltimore Orioles organization. Tyler Kehrer joins the Miami Marlins organization. Recchia played for Windy City ThunderBolts (independent) last season, posting an 11-3 record with a 2.51 ERA as a starting pitcher. He earned the Brian Tollberg Award, given to the league's top pitcher, after setting league records with five shutouts and 177 strikeouts. He also led the league in complete games (6) and innings (150.1).

Kehrer joins a new club after being drafted by the Los Angles Angels in 2009 of the Comp A round (48th overall selection). He posted a 2-3 record for the Inland Empire 66ers with a 5.82 ERA last year. Kehrer, a left-handed pitcher, accumulated 37 strikeouts in 38.2 innings. He finished the season with the New Orleans Zephyrs.
