A 24-year-old man has been charged in the death of a 19-month-old Decatur boy who was hit by a car and killed earlier this month.

David W. Overlin was arraigned Tuesday in Macon County Circuit Court on a single count of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.

He has not entered a plea.

Police say the toddler, Zyonne A. Cooper, was struck by an SUV after wandering into a street just after midnight on June 13th.

They say the driver of the vehicle never stopped.

Overlin spoke briefly in the court appearance, acknowledging that he faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.

Overlin was arrested June 16th and is being held on $200,000 bond.
