U of I Theft Advice

Tuesday, 12 December 2017

The University of Illinois Police Department is encouraging students to register their personal belongings, especially during finals season.

University police say bicycles, phones, computers, and wallets were the most common stolen items on campus in 2016.

They say in about every three to four theft cases, items are left unlocked or unattended - some for just a couple minutes or seconds.

Officials say libraries and gyms are the most commonly targeted places.

Police say registering  electronics makes it easier to recover if the item is reported stolen.
