MHS and CHS Girls Basketball

Friday, 1 December 2017

Although Mattoon's boys basketball team has seen early success this season, the results are a lot different for the girls team who finished 28 and two a year ago.

The lady wave lost their third straight game last night, against Effingham.

The Flaming Hearts came out the gates with a tenacious defense, allowing only four points in the first quarter and only 13 by the half.

With the defense making plays, Effingham's offense kicked in to gear in the third quarter, the Flaming Hearts scored 22 in the third, Thursday's final score ended 70 - 34 Effingham.

This looks to be a rebuilding year for Mattoon after losing two strong seniors in Avery Jackson, and Sierra Thompson.

With the Green Wave struggling, Charleston high school's girls basketball just keeps winning!

The Trojans are undefeated on the year and are led by a stout defense, they took on conference foe Mahomet Seymour last night.

To Charleston High School we go where Shea Littleford gives the feed to senior Paige Swango on this lay up in the first.

Mahomet would bounce back though as senior Liz Kemp hits this three on a feed from down low.

The Trojans turned up the defensive heat though on this steal by Littleford before finsihing the lay up on the other end.

The Trojans finished the game 71 to 53, they have won seven straight games and will be back on the court Monday taking on Effingham.
