The Mattoon High School boys' basketball team welcomes the new season with a coaching change.
Jeff Forsythe was the head coach of the Green Wave last season but with less than a week until the first game, school officials announce that Ryan Ghere will serve as interim head varsity basketball coach for this season.
Forsythe has reportedly not been at practice this week, but officials say they have no further comment on the situation.
Ghere is a long-time teacher at Mattoon and is already a varsity soccer coach but now faces the task of rebuilding the team from its eight and 21 finish a year ago.
The Green Wave open the season next Tuesday against Robinson.
