In response to the mass shooting epidemic, a local police department is receiving new safety armor.

Officials said the Effingham City Council agreed to spend $9,000 on new equipment for the city's police department.

Police Chief Jeff Fuesting said safety is a priority, and the new equipment allows them to be more prepared.

Fuesting said the new equipment will also better equip officers who put their lives on the line everyday.
