A Mattoon police officer is taken to the hospital for a bite wound.

On Sunday, police arrested 36-year-old Anthony Arnone in the 2300 block of Marshall Avenue for threatening a public official and aggravated battery to a police officer.

Authorities say the incident started when Arnone was walking on Broadway Avenue and became involved in an argument with a senior citizen, threatening to kill the resident.

They say Arnone fled the scene and when he was caught he threatened violence against the officer's family.

Arnone is also accused of spitting on and bitting the officer's arm.

Arnone remains in jail.
