Reward Increases in Case Involving Missing Chinese Scholar

Relatives of a missing Chinese woman studying at the University of Illinois say they won't leave the country without her as the reward in the case increases to $50,000.

Family members of 26-year-old Yingying Zhang spoke are pleading with the public for any information that might help find her.

A Champaign man has been indicted on kidnapping charges in Zhang's disappearance and the FBI has said they believe Zhang is dead.

Zhang's boyfriend, Xiaolin Hou, says the family is holding out hope that Zhang survived and will be found.

Surveillance footage shows Yingying Zhang getting into a black Saturn Astra before she disappeared on June 9th in Urbana.

The video was made public after Zhang was reported missing.

An FBI affidavit says the vehicle's license plate wasn't legible, but that the footage showed the vehicle had a cracked hubcap.

The affidavit says that helped investigators distinguish it from the other vehicles of that model registered in Champaign County.

Investigators determined the vehicle belonged to former graduate student Brendt Christensen.

He was arrested June 30th.
