Remembering Byron Edingburg

Wednesday, 26 April 2017

It's been five days since the shooting in Charleston on 7th street that claimed the life of an Eastern Illinois University student. Byron Edingburg was fatally shot Saturday morning on 7th Street in Charleston at a house party. His friend Jaccari Brown said he was always a people person and he was simply at the wrong place at the wrong time. Edingbur was planning on joining the Peace Corps after graduating from Eastern this spring and had several goals to help better the world around him. EIU student Hillary Fuller says she'll never forget the moment they became friends all from their love of baseball and she's still in disbelief of what happened. Eastern Associate Professor of Business David Boggs says when he recognized Edingnburg's name he was shocked because Edignburg presented a project for his class just days before the shooting. Boggs says Byron was an active learner and interested in the subject matter, he was good nature and he was engaged and involved. Fuller said, "I think it's important to remember him because the thing is he was a student who went here, he lived here and he sat here in the classes and he ate in the Union and he drove around campus and you know he lived here. It's important to remember him because you don't want his memory to be seen as anything less than what he lived." This evening's memorial on Eastern's campus starts at six in the Martin Luther King Junior Union Grand Ballroom.
