Champaign Shootings - Update

Wednesday, 28 September 2016

Champaign police issue an arrest warrant in the weekend shootings they say started because of a fight.

Champaign County State's Attorney Julia Rietz says the fight that preceded the shooting Sunday near the University of Illinois campus appears to have begun after one woman spilled a drink on another at a party.

Police say that party was at an apartment in the Campustown area that runs through the middle of campus.

Rietz said the spilled drink led to a fight involving the women and then to a man being severely beaten by a large group of men.

The shootings that killed 22-year-old George Korchev resulted from those disagreements, but police say Korchev was not involved in any of the original disputes.

Champaign Police have issued an arrest warrant for 18-year-old Robbie Patton of Champaign.

Patton is wanted on charges of first degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm.

If you have any information on Patton's whereabouts contact Champaign Police.
