Cubs Clinch Divsion

Friday, 16 September 2016

Thanks to a loss from the St. Louis Cardinals, the Chicago Cubs magic number to clinch the National League Central Division is zero.

The Cubs clinched the division and a playoff berth with sixteen games left on the season, marking the earliest the team has clinched since 1969.

Chicago is 94 and 53 on the season, and 17.5 games ahead of the second place Cardinals.

The Cubs are the first team to earn a playoff berth so far this season, and are division champs for the first time since 2008.

The team took little time to celebrate its berth, and notched another victory over the Milwaukee Brewers earlier today.

The win came in extra innings after Miguel Montero sent one into the seats for a walk-off 5-4 victory.
