A Mattoon man is accused of murder.

Police say they were called to the 300 block of 21st Street early Saturday morning for reports of gunshots.

They say when they arrived on scene, they found a victim wounded by gunfire.

Authorities have not identified the victim, but say the person later died at Sarah Bush Lincoln health center.

24-year-old James Shafer was arrested for first degree murder, a felon in possession of a firearm and reckless discharge of a firearm.

Police say 36-year-old Kevin Johnson and Matthew Cook are both charged with intimidation.

Coles County Crimestoppers is also asking for the public's help in locating 33-year-old Shawn Dale Adamson.

Police want to question him about the shooting.

They say he's also wanted on a Coles County warrant for possession of methamphetamine.

Authorities say he frequents homes in Mattoon and Charleston and has numerous associates in the Chicago area.

They say Adamson should be considered armed and dangerous.

Update:

Mattoon police say they tracked Adamson down at a home in Centralia.

They say he was arrested early Wednesday morning at a home on South Elm Street.

Adamson is charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm and a felon in possession of a firearm and intimidation.
