EAB Quarantine Dropped

Thursday, 5 May 2016

A quarantine caused by this big green bug is dropped!

Officials say Illinois will no longer restrict the use of non-coniferous firewood such as pines, spruces and firs.

The wood is a food source for the emerald ash borer, a bug native to Asia.

The invasive species crawls into the wood and kills it from top to bottom.

Officials say the beetle is too widespread to regulate.

Until now, more than half of Illinois' counties were under a quarantine in order to prevent the ash borer from spreading.
