Police are reminding students not to send or accept checks from people they've never met.

The University of Illinois Police Department has recently gotten several reports from students concerned about an internet scam.

Police say students are receiving e-mails from fake job recruitment agencies offering them a position.

The students are sent a check for a certain amount, told to deposit it and keep 10% for themselves, then wire the rest to a third party.

Police say the original check never clears.
