The votes are in!

Charleston residents have elected a new mayor!

By nearly 700 votes, Larry Rennels beat out Brian Myerscough and Troy Richey for the position.

Rennels collected more than sixty five percent of the overall vote.

With his election, he'll be stepping down from his position as a city council member.

Rennels was first elected to the council in 1997.

He says he's excited to be the mayor, and he's hoping for more community involvement.

Rennels says he also wants to start incorporating live streaming into the meetings so those who can't attend can still hear what was discussed.

He says while he doesn't know exactly what his office hours will be, he's hoping to be in the city hall more often.

Rennels takes office May 7th.
