Warrant Issued in Mattoon Murder Case

Mattoon Police Department and the Coles County State's Attorney have issued an arrest warrant for 41-year-old Thomas Ray O'Dell for the March 18, 2013, murder of Benjamin Newton.

Police say Newton was shot to deat at Toaster's Bar on Broadway Avenue.

The warrant resulted from an intense investigation by Mattoon police with the assistance of the state's attorney's office, the East Central Illinois Task Force, the Illinois State Police, Cumberland County Sheriff's Department and the Coles County Coroner.

Police say O'Dell is at large and should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information pertaining to his whereabouts is asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-866-345-8488 or the Mattoon Police Department at 235-5451.
