Problems With Black Ice

Monday, 17 November 2014

While snow is usually visible to most drivers, black ice also known as invisible ice is not, and officials believe it may have been the cause of the fatal accident involving Eastern students. Brittany Borthwick talked with the Coles County Sheriff's Department to find out if there are steps drivers can take to help prevent an accident during dangerous conditions. Icy roads are to blame for a couple of accidents in the viewing area earlier today. Officials say around 2 p.m., a car slid at the intersection of Rt. 130 and Rt. 133 into the oncoming lane and hit the axel of a semi truck. About an hour after that, another accident happened on Rt. 316 near the Coles County fairgrounds involving three cars. Again, no injuries were reported.
