More than a year and a half of negotiations, and it's confirmed! Cronus Chemicals will be built in Douglas County! The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity announced yesterday the company will build a fertilizer plant in central Illinois. A billion dollar chemical plant will be built near Tuscola. Earlier today, officials from all over the state, including Governor Pat Quinn, were in Douglas County to celebrate the future of the plant. Quinn says this is a great thing for Illinois. The new plant will be built on a 235 acre site just west of Tuscola near Interstate 57. Department spokesman David Roeder says construction is expected to start next spring and last about three years.
