Interstate 70 Construction

Monday, 25 February 2013

Construction started February 25th on a stretch of Interstate 70 between Greenup and Effingham. The Illinois Department of Transportation is working on three bridges along the interstate. Bob Utz at I-DOT's Effingham office says together the three bridges aren't expected to be finished until November 2014. Lane closures aren't expected until March 4th. Utz says the delay shouldn't be too bad. Officials are strongly urging drivers to use extreme caution when driving through construction areas. They say be sure to slow down and watch for workers. The minimum penalty for speeding in a work zone is $375, regardless of whether there are workers present or not.
