Ameren Transmission Line

Friday, 21 February 2014

The Illinois Commerce Commission approved the final route for the 375-mile-long project yesterday. Ameren Transmission Company of Illinois says the 1.1 billion dollar Illinois Rivers Project is needed to improve the power grid's reliability and efficiency. Regardless of the need, some Edgar County residents aren't happy about the news. The 345,000 volt transmission line will affect about 84,000 landowners. Construction is set to begin later this year. Sections of the line could be in use by 2016.
