The city of Champaign may be about to start a $2.1 million project to ease longtime flooding problems in the central part of the city.
The three-phase project would start with the construction of a storm-water detention basin.
If the City Council gives the project approval on Tuesday, then work would begin next month.
The project is part of a push to ease an $80 million backlog of drainage-system projects in town.
A new property owners' fee would pay for the first project.
