Man Pleads Guilty to Stabbing and Beating a Friend

Friday, 14 February 2014

A central Illinois man has pleaded guilty to the 2012 stabbing, beating and stomping death of a friend.

22-year-old Douglas W. Taylor faces between 20 years and life in prison when he's sentenced later this year.

Prosecutors say they'll ask for a maximum sentence.

Taylor pleaded guilty to a first-degree murder charge for the slaying of 23-year-old Justin Mentzer, who died in his Maroa mobile home.

Authorities say Taylor and Terris D. Warnsley beat him with hard objects, stomped on him with their feet, stabbed him with knives and smothered him.

Mentzer had more than 125 wounds to his head, chest, neck, arms and hands.

Warnsley is facing 18 charges and is also held on $10 million bond ahead of his May trial.
