The Jim Allen Show

jim_allen_logo What better way to be part of a community than to dance with it! WEIU tapes a country music show every other month entitled The Jim Allen Show. Viewers, members, WEIU staff and residents from Charleston and the surrounding communities alike come together to dance and enjoy the music from the Country Classics Band featuring singer and guitar player Jim Allen. The band takes us all back in time with the old country classics and provides an entertaining two-hour show that gets everyone’s toes tapping.

Constant Motion

The Constant Motion Documentary Project began when Dr. Cindy Rich from Eastern Illinois University’s Teaching with Primary Sources started her latest mission – to document the stories of Railway Post Office clerks (RPO). Often considered the elite of the mail service, RPO clerks rode in mail cars along the railways of the Midwest and beyond sorting mail and catching postal bags at speeds of up to 80 miles per hour. Cindy’s father, Wally Waldman, was one of these men. Cindy came to WEIU with the idea to collaborate on a documentary to record first-hand the stories from the men. So, Teaching with Primary Sources organized a one-day event in which 11 former RPO clerks from Illinois and Iowa came to the WEIU studios to share their stories. They brought with them, not only their stories, but also photographs and other pieces of RPC memorabilia.
