Cameras in the Courtroom
A new policy could let cameras in the courtroom!
The Illinois Supreme Court approved a policy yesterday that would allow the media to be present at jury trials.
With this decision Illinois court rooms will be allowed to join a pilot a program that could provide a new look at just how the court system really works.
This new program is intended to allow the media to sit in during trials to give a new transparency to the system.
At least one local attorney says cameras may be a major disruption to the courtroom.
Others say the new program is a big step for Illinois as most others states already allow cameras in jury trials.
The judges in our area say they'll be discussing the policy in the coming weeks and hope to come to a mutual decision on whether they will participate in the pilot program.
