A group of retired Mattoon city workers is taking the city to court.

A complaint filed by 59 former Mattoon police officers, firefighters, and municipal workers claims the city is breaking the law by charging them higher insurance rates than current city workers. 

Damages sought in the case exceed 50 thousand dollars.

City officials are not commenting at this time, but have until February 17th to respond to the suit.
