Every mile is an adventure with Heartland Highways

Welcome to the offical show website.  Heartland Highways has been in production since 2002 and in that time, we've featured hundreds of unique people and interesting places in Illinois, Indiana and Missouri.

Your hosts for these adventures are Lori Casey and Kate Pleasant. We hope you enjoy the show. Stay a while and learn more about Heartland Highways

Production of the 9th Season of Heartland Highways is underway.  Lori and Kate are taking a "close to home" approach this season by featuring more people and places near their home base of Charleston, Illinois.  In fact two stories are just steps from their building on the campus of Eastern Illinois University.  Just across the street is a wonderful garden called "The Secret Garden" and next door is the Tarble Arts Center. Of course a few adventures further from home are in the works.  Be sure to check back and see what we've been up to this summer.  Look for us on July 3rd at Charleston's Red White and Blue Days!

Thanks for watching.

This show is all about talented women. Mary Satterfield is a champion fisherwoman and she’ll take Lori and Kate out to her favorite lake, Lake Shelbyville, and attempt to teach them to fish like champions too! And she hasn’t made it onto Ace of Cakes or Cake Boss yet, but Buffy Vance of Madeline’s Confectionery in Urbana has a pretty impressive craft all on her own. She’ll tell us all about sugar art in this episode. Finally, Suzanna Fairley doesn’t take art lightly, despite the fact that she paints on feathers. Her love for painting on any and everything has brought her to feathers and what she creates is nothing short of amazing!

This week we travel to several different types of farms. The 200 Acres in Arthur farms cucurbits, or things of the pumpkin and squash variety in layman’s terms. One of their latest undertakings is heirloom seeds. Come along and see how the Condill Family is preserving their family tradition. Then we head to rural Herrick, Illinois, where we’ll meet the Clark Family. They’re taking sustainable living to a whole new level. We end up in Newton, Illinois, at a shrimp farm. Yes, you read that right. It may be the furthest south shrimp farm in the United States. Watch to find out how Stan Zumbahlen makes it work!
